Balanovka was founded as a typical privately owned town in the territory of the Bratslav province. It belonged to Prince Lubomirski, and then graphs Sobansky and Potocky.
Yarema Sobansky in the late 18th century built a palace, which in 1860 was dismantled for building materials. But there still remains some very interesting structures.

In 1939 there lived only 35 Jews. In 1941, the Romanian occupation authorities created in Balanovka ghetto for Jews deported from Bessarabia and Bukovina. Hunger and disease have died around 3200 people.
