Onut (ukr. Онут), known from 1253. In the 16-18 centuries in Moldavian principality. In the 19 - beggining of the 20 centuries - in the province of Bukovina as part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire (the border between the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Russian Empire passed through Onut, and the village was divided into 2 parts). In 1918-40 - as part of Romania, in 1940-91 - as part of Ukrainian SSR.
There is no information available about the Jewish community in Onut.
In the 1920s, the Austrian part of the village belonged to the Jew Veisganzer, who later sold his property to the landowner Corn.
