The history of your family - it's always fun. People are often addicted to the search for information about their ancestors, make a family tree - and find interesting things sometimes! Someone is a descendant of an ancient noble family, but someone's great-grandfather was a wealthy merchant or a famous scientist. The Jewish genealogy is much more complex than any other, which is not surprising.

The entire history of the Jewish people, beginning with Abraham, is a constant movement from place to place. There was only one relatively long period without the migration - from conquest of the land of Israel by Yehoshua bin Nun to capture of Jerusalem by Titus and destruction of the Second Temple. Next - the endless displacement, exile again and again resettlement. And that Poland and modern territory of Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova became the residence of Ashkenazi Jews until the beginning of World War II.

Our site was created especially for those who want to find their ancestors or other relatives living in these places. We work with many archives and libraries, we have specialists in all directions - from the search for records in the register of old synagogues to find graves in the ancient Jewish cemetery.

According to the "Regulations of the Jews" in 1804, the function of conducting registers of births in duplicate was obliged rabbis. One of them kept a synagogue, the other - in urban settings. Vital records in the synagogues were at roughly the same pattern as that of the Christians (birth, circumcision, marriage, death). However, the metric records existed far not all Jews. Often not conducted metric record births and deaths of girls. The boy was made compulsory religious rite of circumcision, and besides, their accounting was necessary due to the existing laws on compulsory military service and are constantly checked.
Jewish births were conducted in two languages: on the left page turning the text in Russian, on the right - the same text is duplicated in Hebrew or Yiddish. Years on the Jewish calendar in both cases is almost never indicated in the Hebrew text indicates the date on the Christian calendar. There were also problems with the transmission in Russian Jewish names and place names badly owning Russian grammar Jews that led births. Some records are often lost as a result of careless cutting sheets after stapling notebooks.
